Biography & Artist Journey

Theano Giannezi is a visual artist, born in Thessaloniki in 1991. She studied at the Department of Visual and Applied Arts at the School of Fine Arts of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, graduating in 2016. Since then, she has presented her work in art galleries such as Zina Athanassiadou Gallery, the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, Lola Nikolaou Gallery and the Glo’Art Foundation in Belgium. In 2019, she was awarded the Darmasiswa scholarship to study art and culture in Indonesia, specializing in the traditional shadow puppet theater Wayang Kulit at ISI University in Yogyakarta. During her time in Asia, she participated in exhibitions, residencies, and projects, including a solo show at Krack Studio and an artist residency at Paper Moon Puppet Theater.

Her work focuses on the three-dimensional depiction of elements from natural and urban landscapes, which she transforms through the lens of human experience and perception. She primarily works with paper, charcoal, and scalpel, creating floating installations with strong manual and conceptual character. In 2022, she received 3rd place in the MATAROA Awards and curated the exhibition program of Toss Gallery in Thessaloniki from 2022 to 2024. Her work has been shown across Europe and Asia in exhibitions, seminars, and international residency programs.

Since 2025, she lives and works in Athens.
