The Fovea (Latin for "pit") is a depression in the structure of the eye that is essential for high-acuity vision. Damage to the fovea can have catastrophic consequences for central vision.
The artwork is a multi-layered depiction of the internal structure of an eye. Each layer is arranged at specific intervals to evoke a sense of time, space and depth. In addition, in one of the layers is being projected an eye surgery, serving as a raw metaphor of the harsh realities of today's world and our desensitization to death and suffering, while it embodies a critique of contemporary society. It suggests that despite having our eyes open, we often fail to truly see or feel, trapped in an illusory world where selective vision numbs our awareness.
